Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I Sauna?

Great question — and it’s one that scientists and health experts have been asking (and answering!) in exciting ways. 🧠🔥

Leading neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman of Stanford University explores the science behind sauna use on his highly respected podcast. In one episode, he dives deep into the benefits of heat exposure — things like reduced stress, better sleep, heart health, and even boosted longevity. Sauna isn’t just relaxing — it’s scientifically backed self-care. (Click HERE to listen to this podcast, long but very worthwhile!)

In another episode, Dr. Huberman interviews Dr. Susanna Søberg, a Danish researcher who specializes in metabolism, cold & heat therapy, and healthy aging. Together, they unpack the latest research on sauna and cold plunges — including findings from Dr. Søberg’s own studies. Spoiler alert: pairing heat with cold exposure might be one of the most powerful combos for your body and brain. (Click HERE to listen to a 7 minute clip form the interview)

If you’re the curious type (like us), we highly recommend checking out Dr. Søberg’s blog for approachable science on how sauna and cold plunge support your health: Dr. Søberg’s Blog

So why sauna? Because it feels amazing — and the science agrees.

How does a mobile sauna rental work?

We deliver a fully equipped, wood-fired sauna to your chosen location, set it up, and walk you through everything you need to know. Firewood, a water bucket, ladle, and essential oils are included. After your rental period, we return to pick it up — it’s that simple!

How long does it take to heat up the sauna?

On average, it takes about 60-90 minutes to bring the sauna up to optimal temperature, depending on outdoor conditions and desired temperature. We provide high-quality firewood and easy instructions to get you started. Once heated up the sauna can easily maintain temperature and is very efficient.

Where can you deliver the sauna?

We primarily serve the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and surrounding West Michigan locations. If you’re outside our standard radius, reach out — we often deliver farther for an additional fee.

What are the space requirements?

You'll need a clear, relatively level space for the trailer:

  • Voyageur Sauna: Minimum footprint of 18' long × 9' wide, with at least 12' vertical clearance.

  • North Up Sauna: Minimum footprint of 14' long × 8' wide, with at least 12' vertical clearance.

Driveway, backyard, private land, or lakeside spots are all great options!

Is a electrical power hookup required?

No external power is needed!

  • The Voyageur Sauna includes a solar-powered battery system for LED lights and USB phone charging.

  • The North Up Sauna has built-in LED lights powered internally. No cords needed!

What should I bring for my sauna session?

We recommend bringing:

  • Towels (one to sit on, one to dry off)

  • Water bottle (stay hydrated!)

  • Bathing suit or lightweight, breathable clothing.

  • Flip-flops or sauna shoes

  • Robe for stepping outside during cool-downs

  • Sauna hat (saunahattu)

Can children use the sauna?

We strongly recommend consulting a physician first for minors. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times during sauna use. When children use the sauna they should not stay in as long as adults.

Can I use a cold plunge with the sauna?

Absolutely! Many customers enjoy jumping into a cold lake, river, or setting up a portable cold tub.
Important: Cold plunges carry their own risks — always consult a healthcare provider beforehand and never cold plunge alone.

What about weather?

Rain, snow, or sunshine — the sauna can operate safely in nearly all conditions!
However, we may need to reschedule delivery if extreme weather (like lightning or severe storms) poses safety risks.

How hot does the sauna get?

Our saunas typically reach temperatures between 150°F and 200°F, depending on your fire management and outdoor conditions. You control the heat by adjusting the stove and ventilation. We'll show you exactly how during setup!

How long should I stay in the sauna?

Typical sauna sessions last anywhere from 10–20 minutes at a time, followed by a cool-down period (like a cold plunge, outdoor air, or a cold shower). Most people enjoy several rounds during a full session, but always listen to your body!

Can I use my own firewood in the sauna?

For the best performance and to protect the sauna stove, we ask that you only use the seasoned hardwood firewood we provide with your rental.
Outside firewood and wood scraps may contain too much moisture, creosote, chemicals, or debris, which can damage the stove, create excessive smoke, and affect the sauna experience.

Can I add essential oils to the sauna?

Yes! We provide natural essential oils(eucalyptus) you can use to create a refreshing aromatherapy experience. Always add oils to the water before ladling onto the rocks — never pour oils directly onto the hot stove!

What types of events can I book a sauna for?

Our mobile saunas are perfect for:

  • Weekend retreats

  • Backyard gatherings

  • Bachelor/bachelorette parties

  • Health & wellness events

  • Cold weather celebrations

  • Lake days and cabin weekends

  • Corporate wellness retreats

If you’re planning something special, reach out — we love helping customize your sauna experience.

Is alcohol allowed while using the sauna?

For your safety, we discourage alcohol use during sauna sessions. Heat can intensify the effects of alcohol and increase the risk of dehydration, dizziness, or fainting.

Can you deliver to a remote or rustic location?

Yes! We love off-grid setups — forests, lakesides, cabins, campgrounds, and farms. Since it is a wood fired sauna as long as the site is accessible by trailer and meets basic space requirements, we can deliver almost anywhere(there is a delivery fee if its more than 15miles from SE Grand Rapids). Let’s talk about your dream setup!

Is there a cancellation policy?

Yes.

  • Cancel 14+ days before your rental for a full refund.

  • Cancel within 7–13 days and pay a 25% cancellation fee.

  • Cancel 6 days or less before rental — no refund, but rescheduling may be possible.

How do I book?

Simple! Click HERE to reserve your sauna online or contact us directly. Early booking is recommended, especially for weekends and holidays!
